Another BP Oil Leak Solution

1. Wrap a carbon fiber sheet around pipe.
2. Zip/attach ends together with ROV to form a wrap.
3. Slide over leak using ROV.
4. Pull sewn-in slip ties to tighten ends using ROV.
5. Fly ROV around pipe to create sufficient tension.
6. Attach lead weights to hold in place (or use other means to fasten cable to itself).
7. Wind additional fiber to increase strength and reduce leaks.

Proposed Solution to BP Oil Leak

I watched video of the BP oil leak, then learned they are asking for potential solutions to contain the leak. Here is my suggestion as submitted here: http://www.horizonedocs.com/artform.php

Brief Description of Technology
Wind carbon and/or aramid fiber/fabric around leak using ROVs. Start winding sequence with small weight at end of strand: after a few loops the fiber will not slip. ROV loops far enough away from leak that pressure from leak does not impact vehicle control: fiber strand/strip also helps maintain control around the winding center. Winding sequence completed by clamping another small weight to end and cutting fiber/fabric to begin another pass.

Materials Required
Carbon/aramid fibers and/or fabric strips. Lead weights.

Equipment Required
ROVs with rolls of fiber/fabric strips, attachment to clamp on lead weights and cut fiber/fabric.

Expertise Required
Expert ROV flight control and manipulation.
